Getting Started
5 questionsFor merchants embedding VeloMedicine at checkout.
Add a single JavaScript snippet to your checkout page. The widget renders an HSA/FSA qualification form in an iframe. No backend changes are required.
VeloMED works with any web platform — Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Magento, custom builds, and headless commerce setups. If your checkout renders HTML, you can embed the widget.
After signing up, you'll receive a merchant API key (prefixed vm_live_ for production, vm_test_ for sandbox). Use this key in the widget configuration and for REST API calls.
In your merchant dashboard, set your webhook URL. VeloMED sends HMAC-SHA256 signed notifications for events: qualification approved, denied, LMN issued, and provider review requested.
Yes. Use your vm_test_ API key to run the full qualification flow in sandbox mode. Test transactions don't generate real LMNs or contact real providers.
HSA/FSA Basics
4 questionsDefinitions and account mechanics shoppers ask about most often.
A Health Savings Account is a tax-advantaged account for individuals with high-deductible health plans. Contributions are pre-tax, growth is tax-free, and withdrawals for qualified medical expenses are untaxed. Funds roll over annually.
A Flexible Spending Account is an employer-sponsored account that lets you set aside pre-tax dollars for medical expenses. Most FSA funds must be used within the plan year, with limited rollover options.
Savings depend on your tax bracket. Most people save 20–40% on qualifying purchases by using pre-tax dollars instead of after-tax income.
Key differences: HSAs roll over indefinitely and are owned by the individual; FSAs are employer-tied with annual use-it-or-lose-it rules. HSAs require a high-deductible health plan; FSAs do not.
Qualification Process
4 questionsHow screening, review, and outcomes work during checkout.
The customer completes a brief health survey through the embedded widget. The responses are organized for review, and a licensed healthcare provider evaluates eligibility. If the customer qualifies, a Letter of Medical Necessity is issued.
Typically under 2 minutes from survey submission to LMN issuance. Complex cases that require manual provider review may take longer.
The customer is informed that they don't qualify for HSA/FSA payment for this purchase. They can still complete the purchase using standard payment methods.
VeloMED's infrastructure is built with HIPAA-ready architecture. Health data is encrypted at rest and in transit, access is controlled, and data is used solely for qualification purposes.
Letters of Medical Necessity
4 questionsQuestions about issuance, reimbursement, and provider review.
An LMN is a document from a licensed healthcare provider stating that a product or service is medically necessary for treating, preventing, or mitigating a specific health condition. It enables HSA/FSA reimbursement for dual-use products.
A licensed healthcare provider in our network reviews the health survey and issues the LMN if clinically appropriate. The provider exercises independent clinical judgment.
Pay with your HSA/FSA card at checkout, or pay with a regular card and submit the LMN to your plan administrator for reimbursement.
Plan administrators have discretion to approve or deny claims based on their specific plan rules. Most plans accept valid LMNs from licensed providers.
Troubleshooting
3 questionsCommon merchant implementation and support questions.
Verify your API key is correct and active. Check that the containerId matches an element in your DOM. Ensure your domain is whitelisted. Check browser console for JavaScript errors.
Verify your webhook URL is publicly accessible (not localhost). Check that your server returns a 200 status code within 10 seconds. Review your HMAC signature verification logic.
